It was bad enough coming in from Louisiana to Washington State -- an entirely different climate -- when the weather was good. Add in a snowstorm, and things started getting bad indeed. Add in a lot of bags AND a Russian tortoise in a pet carrier and it was pure chaos. Only the fact that Kent offered the cabbie a very generous tip if the man would help him with his luggage saved the situation.
One hundred dollars lighter in the pocket, the first thing he did after closing his apartment door on the now-flush cabbie was make sure that the heat was up and Boethius's terrarium was set up properly. The tortoise was looking more than a little aggrieved by the time he was settled under the UV lights and heat lamps, but Kent could finally take a deep breath and look around at his new place.
On the plus side... the movers had put most of the furniture and boxes in the right rooms, and everything appeared to be intact. On the downside, it would be days, maybe weeks, before this place felt like home.
And what if it never did?
He'd taken an enormous risk coming here; he knew that. The school wasn't the issue; that would be fine. But... what if his other quest didn't pay off? This could be the loneliest Christmas of his life if he was wrong. By New Years, he might be regretting everything.
It's going to be okay, he told himself, as he cracked open the box with the rest of Boethius's supplies in it. One way or another. Seattle's a good town... okay, fine, it's cold as hell right now, but still.
As an afterthought, he hoped that collard greens wouldn't be too difficult to come by up here in the north.
Never mind a collared submissive...
